Base Camping vs. Door-to-Door

You have two options when it comes to our classic Vermont walking tours. Read on to find out which is right for you!

Option 1, "Base Camping"

Fun and flexible. "Base camping" means you will stay two or more nights at each inn, so that you can focus on enjoying the best possible hikes or activities each day, depending on weather conditions and how you're feeling. If someone in your group wants to sit by the fireplace and read a book while others climb one of Vermont's highest peaks, this is your tour! Option 1 can accommodate everyone's vacation goals. With this option we typically have access to a wider variety of inns and booking dates when planning your tour.

Option 2, "Door-to-Door"

Classic and rewarding. This one is for the purists, hikers who are excited by the idea of staying at a new inn each night and traveling from A to B on foot during the day. "Door-to-door" means you'll walk whenever safe and practical, minimizing vehicle shuttles to or from trailheads even if it means a bit of extra road walking. While we can accommodate nearly all ability levels (each of our tours is fully customized), in general daily mileage tends to be higher with Option 2.

Whichever option you choose, you can expect personalized attention to detail and an itinerary that's customized to meet the needs of your group. Or, ask us about combining Options 1 and 2 into a "hybrid" tour!
